Who Am I?

I have struggled my entire life from a child to adulthood. You can say I didn’t exactly have everything from great clothes, popularity, excellent education and down to the bare minimum of a handful of friends. The friends I have are the friends one could only hope for. You see, these friends have become my family as they have been there to see my heartaches. I had been given a great opportunity to create my life into becoming something and someone better… an artist.

All of us have a job, whether it is a minimum wage or a part-time gig. I can actually say I have had many jobs that I am not too proud of. Anyone can get a job as these are a dime a dozen for what you are willing to settle with. At the same time, I was able to get myself a career and lose the “Jobs”. A career is the most rewarding gift anyone can have. A career is something that you enjoy waking up to and love the risks that come in your direction. Any of us who have a family will express this to their children as you don’t want them to endure any horrific endeavors that you had.

Now, lets talk about continuing my education. I was not too fond of the schooling when I was a child as I had some difficulties learning and especially keeping up. So you can imagine the sheer fright I had when enrolling myself back into school in my late 30’s. Thinking… am I going to have the same difficult lessons, maintaining my life around the homework plans, keeping up with others that typically fly through the classes with a breeze? Well, I was sweating bullets my first couples of weeks in school. Then, I accepted the challenge and moved forward with my new life.

I am proud to say, I finished my education as a Bachelors of Science and Technology in Graphic Design. I found myself in the profession of Graphics and printing. To be in a profession, you have to act the part and be professional. To be a professional, you have to present yourself to others with a great presentation of who you are and what you can do for them. Presentation is everything as this can build your reputation up or it can hurt you and bring you right down. Present yourself like a trophy on the wall and your work will stand for itself! So I say this again, presentation is everything and it will shine in the end. The more clients you meet in person or over the phone, the more confident one can be. I am a strong believer in selling yourself on what you’re worth! I’m sure all of us have come across some shady website or untrustworthy individual that we shy away from. I say this in good faith… Don’t be that person! The meaning of presentation is to arrange, display, defend and explain your work in the group of individuals. As these are the individuals that will hire you for the great work that you present to them.

I have come to learn that life is difficult as we need to expect and accept all the challenges that are thrown at us. It’s true that we don’t know what we’ve got until we lose it, but it’s also true that we don’t know what we’ve been missing until it arrives. Always be on the hunt to search for a good career as you just may miss the opportunity when it arrives.

So who am I? I am the Jiminy Cricket on your shoulder that builds confidence in one’s doubt. I am the outcome and result of a struggled life that turned around for a better. I am the man who challenged myself to find education in a field that was merely thought of as only a dream. I am a man who accepted life’s struggles and challenges. I am an individual who started sketching for fun and turned a hobby into a Graphic Designer. Dream what you want to dream, go where you want to go, be what you want to be. Because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do. It is best to end any writing with a quote. I’m not the best with branding my own as it may have already been said. So I will leave you with a nice and humorous quote that will make you chuckle.

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” ~ Dr. Seuss

Words can never express the extreme pride I have to have been your professor. Your ability to look beyond the horizon and see what others fail to notice–has made you the man you are. Each time you spoke of your family you said” I’m doing this to show my children, dreams are real” I saw a man you may not see, so please let me elaborate, I saw a man eager to learn, a man who worked hard at his craft! I saw a man who despite every reason to give in to the worlds road blocks refused to quit. I saw a man who knew putting his education first meant giving his family a better life which meant showing his children that hard works pays off. I saw a man full of potential, I saw a man who has more knowledge and empathy, than most people I have meet! I saw a man who despite every reason not to continue– continued and persevered. I saw a man who did not let his past define him and will surely succeed in what ever he chooses to do! This Brian is the man I taught, move forward, continue to work hard and remember your professor is always here for support!

    • Wow! I thank you very much for your kind words! I always enjoyed our conversations as every word was very meaningful and important to me! I only hope every student in your class left your room with the wisdom that you bestowed onto us. The day all of us stop learning something new on a daily basis is the day we stop living. That right there is my own quote. Feel free to use it before I copyright it (ha ha). We will need to have more of our great conversations again one day. Hope you and your husband are doing well.

  2. Brian I’ve known you for a while now.. and you are a inspiration and it’s funny that you don’t even know it. You have helped me though difficult times that I couldn’t do myself. Your words are healing. I will always look up to you like an older brother. Thanks for that! So you can add that to your list . Website is great!

    • You are very welcome Brian. I don’t do the things I do so I can get rewarded, I do them because I really enjoy helping.
